Boyf
In lieu of having an actual boyfriend in my life right now, the next best thing surely is that staple item of outerwear: the boyfriend coat/jacket/blazer. Soon enough this lovely, sunshiney (if a little sweaty) summer we're having will be over and come Autumn I'm going to be snuggling into a new boyfriend...coat.
Currently lusting over these beauties. Forever stylish, AND they won't sit around in their pants in front of the football eating day-old pizza. Win win!

Alt-J ∆
Alt-J are a four-piece band originally from Leeds, who...BLA BLA BLA.
You don't need to know the background to this band. All you need to know is that you absolutely have to listen to their debut album An Awesome Wave. It's pretty much all I've been listening to since it was released on 28th May. Apologies to my neighbours for almost a month of the same tracks blaring through the walls...I'm just sharing the love!
I daren't try to put this band into one set genre. Their album is the most perfect mix of electro, indie, jazz, dubstep...something they themselves class "folk-step". Whatever it is, it is fresh, exciting, beautiful, addictive, and the lead singer's haunting voice that's at times creepy, at times beautiful (sometimes both), is the icing on the intoxicating cake that is An Awesome Wave.
Album highlights are Tessellate, Bloodflood (the last 50 seconds or so of this track are just amazing. play it extra loud), Dissolve Me, and Taro (see video below. No explanation needed. Pure, unadulterated awesome).
Definitely my album of the year so far. Next stop: seeing them live. The hunt for a gig is on.

Dudes and Dogs
Dudes.
With dogs.
That is all.
Enjoy

I don't know who this guy is, but if his awesome dog-scarf is anything to go by, he is clearly a winner.

Yeeehaw
Next thing on my never ending sartorial wishlist is a bolo. Having seen the awesome Frances from Happy Because rocking one here, I knew I had to get me one.
Can't wait to scope me one from eBay and start wearing it with crisp white shirts done up to the neck. I reckon they're gonna start appearing more and more on the high street as a natural progression from the current collar-obsession (collar tips, embellished collars, detachable collars).

But I know I'll never be able to work a bolo quite like THESE guys...
Hell yeah.

Life Won't Wait For You...
...and nor will the sunshine so get out and drink in that vitamin D while it's here! But remember the wise words of Baz Luhrman: Wear sunscreen. Or you'll be yet another embarrassing Brit with hilarious lobster red patches. (We just get so excited to see the sun that we all immediately run outside with no thought for suncream, forgetting that our pasty white skin hasn't seen the sun for months)

First Love
Love love love the latest Dr Martens ad campaign for Spring Summer 2012. These pictures leave me pining for summer love, eating chips on a brick wall with a tattooed boy and a pair of Dr Martens...despite the fact I've never owned a pair before.
I'm quite enjoying the idea of these paired with sweet floral, floaty summer dresses, but with the £100 price tag I'm going to have to really save up my pennies. And there's not many things I suck at more than saving money.

Kimo, no?
I'm going to swiftly gloss over the fact that I haven't posted on here for....oh, a good half a year, and get straight to the point. KIMONOS. I am all about kimonos right now. Beautiful, swishy (look, its a word ok), colourful, lacey, fringed, slouchy kimonos. My wardrobe for 2012 is in dire need of one (or possibly all) of these amazing jackets:
Techno Tribal Kimono by Reverse, £49, Yayer.co.uk
Reformed Kimono, on sale from £75 to £35 (!), Urban Outfitters
Silk Boss Kimono, $148, Nasty Gal

A Sunday Well Spent Brings A Week Of Content...
Today is the kind of grey Sunday that calls for Bob Dylan, green tea, Aaron Johnson film-perving, filling online shopping baskets with clothes (but not continuing to checkout...), blog-browsing, trying on ancient lipsticks and creating new outfits from clothes right at the back of the wardrobe you forgot you had.

Sunshine, where have you gone and are you returning soon, please?

Listening to The Beta Band on my bed, eating cheese and crackers, desperately wishing I had sufficient funds to afford these (all Nasty Gal):

...Hi There
Jeez, first post in almost 2 months? Thats shameful blogger behaviour, I hang my head. I've been a little swamped with trying to settle into a new job in the bright lights of the big city. But I will do my best to appease you with this beautiful song that I like to imagine is being sung directly to and for me. It's the only song about an "Emma" I can think of, so this is for all us unsung-about Emma's out there. You can suck it Jolene, Lola, Layla, Caroline, Delilah, Maria, Lucy, Mandy.....

Audacity of Huge
Working at my local animal shelter over the weekend I was faced with a rabbit that looked a little like this:
What are you supposed to do when faced with a rabbit that is the size of a dog and too heavy to lift single-handed??!
Stare in awe, I reckon, which is exactly what I did. And give it double helpings of food...

Love for the ridiculously gargantuan

Blue Monday
So, apparently today was officially "the most depressing day of the year". Well, that might explain the mood of yesterday's post! Something in me clearly realised that summer is still a million miles off, Christmas even further off, and there's officially no excuse to be eating a trillion calories a day anymore.
Call it churnalism, call it psychological nonsense, (call it a great 80's tune by New Order), how was your "Blue Monday"?
(Note: weird moment of the day. Reading through an article on tips for surviving "Blue Monday" on the guardian website today, I came across this paragraph -
"With that in mind, the charity is attempting to spread a little cheer through the City of London today using space hoppers, smoothies and massages. There is also talk of fluffy blue monsters, although it's not immediately clear how they fit in to proceedings."
To understand the freakiness of this, please refer to the first picture in the post below which I found at random to cheer me up....C'EST BIZARRE, NON?)

Visual Cheer
I'm feeling bummed today. Can't really explain it, but maybe thats ok.
So here are some visual pick-me-ups for anyone else out there feeling a bit blue.

Happy New Year people!
With every new year celebration comes the inevitable issue of new year resolutions. Bah.
I think it's a good idea to look to improve yourself or your situation or whatever, but I don't necessarily think you have to make resolutions to cut things out of your life, or do less of something. I think a refreshing look at new years resolutions would be to consider things you want to add to your life, whether it be a new skill or friend or outlook on life.
So with this in mind, here are my resolutions for 2011 (which, inevitably, will not all be kept but the more there are, the more chance I have of seeing one through. Right?)
Here's a happy video to send you smiling into the new year. x

- Learn to bake cupcakes
- Pick up the guitar again
- Draw more and get the creative juices going
- Be more active
- Drop a couple of pounds (well, it wouldn't be a new years resolution without weight loss in there somewhere....)
- Make some new friends at new job
- MOVE OUT OF FAMILY HOME INTO LONDON (can you tell i'm excited about this one?)
Here's a happy video to send you smiling into the new year. x

Love/Hate
Oh the sales....its a love/hate relationship. I love all the amazing bargains to be found, but I hate the inevitable draining of the bank account as a result. Bah.
(I especially hate when something that you have purchased at the full retail price is suddenly a fraction of what you paid for it in a sale that started a week later)
(I especially hate when something that you have purchased at the full retail price is suddenly a fraction of what you paid for it in a sale that started a week later)
Isn't this the most beautiful dress you've ever seen? (Mango sales)

But its so beautiful....I want!
Would I ever wear it?
Does it matter?
The tumultuous relationship continues...
Happy bargain hunting people!
